Major National Dialogue: Women Peace Builders Presents Report Cards Of Implementation.

The coalition of Women's peace building network in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon have presented findings on the implimentation of the major National Dialogue with some stakeholders of the North West Region in Bamenda on Friday May 5th 2023.

The presentation came as a result of the coalition's quest to find lasting solutions to the ongoing anglophone crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. Three years down the line from the October 2019 Cameroon major national dialogue, the anglophone crisis has continue to rock the two regions. It is on this premise that reach out Cameroon in coalition with six women peace building networks undertook a 6 weeks community engagement survey to assess communities' knowledge of Women's representation in the implimentation and monitoring mechanisms of the major national dialogue as well as women's participation in peace building at the Grassroots.


As highlighted by the report, key findings ranges from low knowledge of the major national dialogue implementation and monitoring mechanisms at the grassroots with 20% of the respondents being aware of the reconstruction committee and only 5% were aware of the justice and peace commission, humanitarian assistant programs and bilingualism and multiculturalism commission. The findings equally revealed the need to increase the representation and participation of women in peace building processes and decision making at all levels with 22% of respondents calling for the training of women on conflict management and economic empowerment.


In an interview with the gatekeeper20, Clotilda Andiensa chair person of the steering committee noted that the issues raised in the report can be resolved through local partnership like the DDR, Regional Assembly and councils who were part of the study to involved women in the implimentation and projects, creation of awareness as well as local funding to local women to implement projects at the Grassroots.


The report also highlighted recommendations such as digital literacy for women peacebuilders, capacity strengthening, training programs for women on political systems, women's rights to political participation and women's roles in decision making.


It should be noted that the realization of the project was made possible with the coalition of reach out Cameroon, Cameroon Women's Peace Movement (CAWOPEM), South West Women's Task Force (SNWOT), Women Peace Builders Network (WOPEN) Community Women Peacebuilders Mediators (COWOPEM), Community Women Peacebuilders Network (COWOPNET) and Voice of Community Women (VCW) and founded by the Rapid Response Window of Women Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) in partnership with the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN).
